A Gathering Place

A Vision Coming Into Form

It is time for a change.
It is time to bring back the wisdom of the Northern traditions, the mysteries and rituals of the runes and to honor again the gods and goddesses who are held in the ancestral memory of any of us who have genetic blood lines that go back to Europe, Scandinavia and the British Isles.
It is time to reconnect with our roots.
It is my vision and intention to create a gathering place that is focused on and centered around the earth based, life honoring traditions and spiritual practices of the indigenous peoples of northern Europe and the British Isles before the coming of Christianity.
Such a place and intention is sadly missing within most New Age Spiritual Communities.

It is easy to find information about Greek and Roman mythology, ancient Egypt, Buddhism and Hindu practices and the desert gods of Judaism and Christianity. It is easy to find information about the practices and rituals of Native American peoples. We have the East, South and West represented but we are greatly out of balance because we have forgotten the North.
Here in the greater Portland, Oregon area there is a small but determined group of individuals who are working together with this common vision of creating a gathering space for the honoring of the Northern Mysteries.

I am very excited to say that in October 2011 I purchased a glorious mounted caribou, with an enormous rack of antlers. So for sure we must find a permanent home for our caribou.

We are currently located in an upstairs room in a large old house in SE Portland. This location is home to HARP.
We call ourselves Elku - Northern Mysteries. In the current location we have drum circles, classes and workshops, open houses, art shows and rune readings.
We are seeking a permanent, physical location that we can call home, a place we can create the energy and spirit of the kindred folk of the North. We want the art and decor to be a reflection of that spirit.
Some of the things we already are designing are prayer flags that are illustrated with the runes and native plants.
We display furs, pelts, animal skins and bones. We burn incense that is made from plant material that's native to the northern climates.

workshops
classes
rituals
celebrations
art shows
and whatever else comes to mind

Ingrid, the Rune Woman

Our ancestors used to gather in sacred places such a groves of oak trees or around sacred wells or springs. There they communed with and honored the spirits of the land and all of nature, as well as the ancestors and the gods. Magic and mystery were associated with the gathering places and some of this lore has survived.
Most of the sacred places have not.
The power is still present and I believe we can, with intention, bring back some of these experiences by creating our own sacred space.

As we continue to look for a permanent home we are also seeking various, temporary locations in the greater Portland area where classes and workshops can be held, as well as places where we can drum and have sacred fire and rituals.
